Client Situation

With over 1000 different flash drives. How do you create something unique, something that captures the attention of your target audience and perhaps go beyond that?

Given that storage devices are seen as a impulse purchase, the packaging was as important as the drive itself. With this in mind we designed the packaging simultaneously with the drive. This enabled us to create a seamless story from shelf to pocket.

Result

Our approach was to look at the product for what it was, a storage device that preserves and protects data. The design was driven by those two words; preservation and protection. To achieve the look of preservation we gave a timeless, high end quality to the design with our choice of raw materials by using a brushed metal. We then wrapped that metal around the softer interior, providing protection.

We chose a blue LED to indicate when the Trans-it-Edge is plugged in. The blue evokes calmness and serenity while at the same time leaving the impression of a serious and disciplined flash drive.

For the packaging, we focused on two main objectives. First we wanted to create a package with shelf impact that would stand out over the field of blister-packs while keeping close to the same price point. Second, we wanted to let the drive's unique and beautiful design be visible in order to sell itself.
