Client Situation
Two brothers from the snow-covered hills of Vermont had an idea; to design, secure financing for, and market an adult snow sled for 20 to 30 year old outdoor enthusiasts.
What they wanted was a sled that would allow a 250-pound adult to go over a 3-foot jump without breaking their back. Not only would an adult sled have to be flexible and comfortable; it also had to be lightweight so enthusiasts could get back up to the top of the hill quickly and easily.

Steve and Rich Luhr found Worrell and selected us as a design partner. Our client was up for some fun and gave us the freedom to really go outside of the box with this project. We conducted a two-day innovation and design charrette where researchers, industrial designers, brand strategists and engineers generated ideas and sketch work. The best concepts were refined in both CAD and foam models. These refined images and models served as a critical marketing aid for the clients, as they were able to use them to secure financing for the next round of development.
Once the overall aesthetic was secured, design concepts were validated through prototyping and engineering models. A lightweight, rust-resistant aluminum frame, mesh-fabric suspension, interchangeable, high-density Polyethylene skis and spring-loaded steering were implemented. The heart and promise of the Hammerhead brand was created as the design emerged and the design language served to extend the brand promise.
Value-added accessory options such as headlamps, mirrors and a cargo net were integrated into the design. The sled's overall weight came in at 9.7 lbs. With the extra creative license Worrell was able to create an award winning design for an extremely successful product.
