Goal
Design a thermostat exclusively for the Chinese market.
Situation
Honeywell needed to create a thermostat that would meet the requirements of the Chinese government including restrictions on energy usage and special requirements for public buildings. They were also looking for programmable temperature control and easy installation for retrofit situations.

Action
Worrell worked with Honeywell to discover how Chinese consumer's needs differed from other cultures. Worrell ended up simplifying feature sets, creating a more user-friendly product and an easier installation procedure.
We also reduced the profile of the thermostat to make it much more sleek and appropriate for space constraints of the Chinese market. Most importantly, we were able to design a very compelling form that was very well received by the Chinese population.
Result
The Halo thermostat has proven Worrell's design and innovation methods excel in the Chinese market. The Halo leads in its category and has been selling with impressive momentum.
It marks a new direction for Honeywell's brand perception in the Chinese market that is highly sensitive to design. China's desire to establish design as a leadership strategy in the global market is satisfied by products such as Halo.
