Client Situation
Imation came to Worrell to have all of their new drives designed cohesively to enhance their brand from the product out. There were several design challenges with the Apollo Pro UX 3.5 inch drive One was that the drive had to be able to function when horizontal and vertical, maintaining cooling functions even when stacked.
Next, the drive needed to have an integrated stand, something that had never been done before with an external drive. This task was made even more difficult because again the drive had to be able to function vertical and horizontal as well as remain stable due to the sensitivity of the drive.
The electrical design needed to be low power and the drive needed to monitor capacity usage and alert the user when the drive is low on storage capacity.
Result
For the 3.5 drive, Worrell designed an elegant and sleek external hard drive featuring an integrated stand versatile enough for both horizontal and vertical use. The drive is perfect for the PC or Mac user on the go. Industrial designers as well as the creative engineering staff at Worrell came up with an integrated loop stand that flips up for easy and safe transporting. The stand is not only functional, but enhances the beauty of the drive and Imation's brand by folding elegantly into a slightly indented wishbone shape that can be found on all new Imation drives.
The drive is clean and smooth with soft lines. Instead of lots of flashy lights, the Apollo Pro UX 3.5-inch drive is absolutely beautiful when lit up. The Imation logo is backlit with crisp detail and as a surprise element when drive is full, a tasteful backlit indicator light appears.
