Nick Benedetto is a Twin Cities transplant via Chicago. When Nick is not working as a Human Factors Engineer at Worrell, he can be found exploring the Minnesota craft beer scene and putting his Italian cooking skills to the test.
What books will we find on your bookshelf?
I enjoy reading books of all genres but a few of my bookshelf mainstays include Dante Alighieri’s “Dante’s Inferno: The Divine Comedy,” Angela Duckworth’s “Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance” and “The Fountainhead” by Ayn Rand.
What is the most common design problem you’ve uncovered in your Human Factors evaluations?
It is common for physicians to develop shortcuts or negative habits after using the same device for an extended period of time. Although Human Factors Engineers test new systems and equipment under real-world conditions, it can be difficult to predict which habit will develop and be passed onto professionals belonging to a particular industry. Thankfully, we’ve developed some evaluation techniques to expose high risk areas for off-label use cases, which helps to ensure that we are creating safer, more intuitive devices.
What is something outside of work in which you consider yourself an expert?
I really enjoy cooking, though I’m not sure I’d consider myself an “expert.” My favorite dish to prepare has to be my chicken saltimbocca. I also enjoy homebrewing beer and any outdoor activities such as boating, fishing, hunting and hiking.

Food trucks, craft cocktails, toasts and an amazing guest list–what more could we ask for? Earlier this month, Worrell hosted family, friends, former coworkers and clients at our headquarters in Northeast Minneapolis for an evening dedicated to commemorating a remarkable milestone–our 40th anniversary.
During the event, guests paused to share fond memories of working with the firm, working for the firm – including Worrell’s first ever employee – and some heartfelt well wishes to Worrell’s founding pair – Bob and Judy Worrell.
On behalf of the company, and the Worrell family, we sincerely thank you for helping us celebrate 40 years of design! Here’s to the next 40 years of healthcare innovation.
A special thanks to Parlour Bar’s Shawn Jones, Metro Cold Stor, The Butcher Salt, Craft Catering and Cocoa & Fig and yum! Kitchen for helping make our 40th anniversary celebration such a success. Visit our 40th Anniversary album on Facebook to view and download more party photos.
